Resumo: | The integration of the Internet in education goes beyond its spread and use, encompassing assimilation processes that reflect our efforts to face and familiarize with it. Variations in its understanding and use based on context settings, previously observed by several researchers, make the Theory of Social Representations a powerful theoretical tool for its study, providing instruments for the analysis of divergences in its interpretation between different social groups. Despite the emphasis given by different authors on the relevance of its use in the study of technologies and their constant changes, there are few works that address the Internet from the perspective of this theory. This research aims to explore the social representations of the Internet in education in Cabo Verde, through an extensive study involving three secondary schools, differentiated by their typology, organizational regime and the communities where they are inserted, having been surveyed, through a questionnaire, 326 students from 11th and 12th grade. The goal is to capture the representations, understand how they are organized and analyze the possible contrasts between the social groups studied, having chosen a societal approach where the social insertion of individuals is seen as a source of variation in social representations. The results suggest that the representations are organized along a content-medium and technology-effect axes, with variables such as school and place of residence, among others, appearing significantly associated with the semantic field, suggesting the existence of natural divergences between groups. These results contribute to the literature, still scarce, analyzing a new sociocultural context, relevant but not yet explored, and approaching natural groups, allowing the analysis of patterns between the present research and contexts analyzed in other studies. They are also relevant for a more solid understanding of students' perceptions, ideas and current experiences with the Internet, having motivated the recommendation of some courses of action to educational institutions in the context of the integration of this resource based on the clues given by the results. |
