This research presented for the Architecture Master Degree, focuses on the application of reused and recycled materials in building construction, through a theoretical and practical approach. Covering aspects like the processes of transformation of materials embedded in building systems based on reuse and recycling, we have developed a project whose program was based on the performance of a laboratory building at the Architecture Faculty of the Oporto University (Faup). The practical approach has enabled us to analyze and apply theoretical research that builds up to the first part of the dissertation. The reuse and recycling practices developed in the fine arts, industrial production and architecture are analyzed in the first two chapters of this study. In this sense, the research is a pretext for the extension of knowledge on the subject accordingly to the architectural view. Accounting to the intent of including some of the knowledge embedded in the project practices of design and construction of buildings, this research seeks to begin the construction of a database (index file of reused and recycled materials) that could serve as an essential work tool for those looking to work in the reuse and recycling of materials in architecture.
