Resumo: Silence is desirable, even necessary, in the Reading Rooms of every Library, so that readers can be focused. Libraries should be places where no noise or sound exists, but, in fact, true silence is impossible, because books do live in Libraries and have lives of their own. They have a voice / voices and interact with each other not only with each other, but with readers too. Readers speak with them and books cannot live without their presence. The reader writes in order to make it possible (Manuel Gusmão). Authors and readers are inseparable. They share the world in a continuous and endless way. This is, undoubtedly, what takes place in all Libraries. Considering this assumption, writers have been testifying that silence is not possible in a Library. When books and readers meet, words can be heard all over, as if the world inside and outside was one.
