Resumo: Kraepelin's methodology and clinical descriptions are still influential in the XXIst century psychiatry. Concerning schizophrenia, the author questions the internal cohesion and predicitve validity of the actual "phenotypes", returning to Kraepelin's concepts regarding the psychopathology and evolution of the disease. The author suggests that the validation of such concepts could influence research and clinical practice.
