Resumo: The essay addresses the relationship between Tropical Medicine and sustainable development and presents reflections on the evolution of biomedical thinking in the face of the challenges of a globalized world. It critically analyzes health inequalities, particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the situation of neglected tropical diseases and the actions undertaken globally to confront them. It also highlights the importance of pragmatic articulation between human health, animal health and environmental health (One Health); the need to reformulate health thinking in the training of the workforce; the adoption of a care model that allows health systems to adequately respond to the current needs of populations. Finally, it points to the need to seek sustainable development without exploiting the weakest, and with a firm willingness not only to overcome the so-called neglected diseases, but also and mainly to create conditions for the establishment of a new order world under the primacy of ethics and solidarity between peoples and nations.
