Resumo: | As Orações de Mansata (2007) is the first play from Guinea-Bissau post-independence period. The work adopts the peculiar strategy of political theater, because it compromises to discuss some crucial points of society and culture, in a resignification scenario memory and identity construction. It is a reinterpretation script from the classic Macbeth, by the English playwri- ght William Shakespeare, in which Abdulai Sila contextualizes the theme of the power abuse in the African reality, joining selfish and alienated characters that seek social and political ascension, in a complete articulation between betrayal and death. In this sense, selfishness is revealed in the characters and also in their tragic destinies, in the face of the realistic deter- minism that historically plagues the man’s character. The drama is materialized by the death’s presence, in which the coronation and dethroning ritual is a repetitive fact, in the confrontation between superior and subordinate characters, in space and time of extreme social asymmetry. |
