Resumo: Este trabalho pretende fazer uma apresentação do conteúdo filosófico de De institutione Musica, de Boécio. Grande parte do seu conteúdo é técnico e não será diretamente discutido. Assim, tratar-se-á dos seguintes problemas: a música enquanto ciência e o papel dos sentidos e da razão na mesma; a divisão da música em três géneros – música mundana, humana e instrumental; o ethos musical e o papel moral e pedagógico da música. Analisa-se ainda a função da música no mais célebre texto de Boécio, A Consolação da Filosofia. Palavras-chave: De institutione musica, Boécio, filosofia da música.  -- Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the philosophical content of Boethius’ De institutione Musica. A large portion of the aforementioned work is very much of technical nature and will not be directly discussed in the present paper. Hence, I shall turn my attention to the following issues: music as science and the role of the senses and of reason in it; the division of music in three genres – cosmic, human and instrumental music; the ethos of music and the moral and pedagogic roles of music. I shall also address to and discuss on the role of music in Boethius’ most renowned opus, The Consolation of Philosophy.
