Resumo: This paper presents the results collected in the development of research entitled Territories andFrontiers: the inconclusive concepts in the schools of Urban Morphology, carried out in the LandscapeLaboratory at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). The research has arisen from therealisation that the English School's approaches to urban morphology, concerning morphogenetic regions and their scales of action, have led to reduced publications on practical studies and applications. Moreover, aspects related to types and territorial types, all integral to the concepts of the Italian School, have been the object of different interpretations in several Brazilian studies in contravention to thoseadvocated by the founders. The research, conducted through a study group, seeks to assess the cause ofthis fragility and the lacunae in the concepts so that these European approaches may be consolidated andbetter applied to the Brazilian context. In addition, the research aims to present comparisons between themorphogenetic regions, derived from the English school, and those territorial types drawn from theItalian approach. Finally, the main objective has then been to find a common denominator which can beapplied to scales of landscape and provide the know-how to analyse and synthesise the attributes of thetwo schools.
