Resumo: This article proposes an approach of the travel narrative Cartas Peninsulares, published in 1895, after the death of its author, Joaquim Pedro de Oliveira Martins. Member of the famous Generation of 70, Oliveira Martins is widely regarded as the fiercest defender of Iberism. In Cartas Peninsulares, Oliveira Martins confronts himself with the Iberian space and the Spanish people, in an alterity process that he approaches in a specular way, (re)visiting the geographical area that historically is the genesis of the division of the two peninsular nations.
