A Quinta da Casadeira no Dão - o levantamento como primeira ação de projeto

The goal of this study is to show the survey methods made to a winery farm in the late nineteenth century, which may favor not only a thoughtful architectural intervention but also an assertion of values ignored and dispersed by the Portuguese rural context. To this end, it engages research on the culture of the times the original and present construction reflected in space and it inquires about their spatial experiences. This farm is located in Vale do Dão and it is a complex characterized by a manor house, Cellar, Winepress house, among other facilities. Also, it is inhabited and remains in operation since its foundation. Territorial issues were taken into account (guidance, boundaries, access) that led to the apprehension of formal coherence of the place as well as place it historically. This allowed for the creation of an inventory of cartographic documents that formed the basis for the reproduction of original maps on which I could work. The initial physical and programmatic organization was reconstituted, serving various parameters such as the hierarchy of architectural elements and spatial interrelationships. It was found by analyzing the forms that deployments of the farm were defined by the golden rectangle, the double square and the isolated square. They found symbolic elements associated with the Order of Christ, although the construction period took place in a prohibition period of the activities of this Order, forcing these to be secret. Relations between parts of the Manor House and the village chapel were found. Their condition was evaluated, which consisted of the analysis of the type of structures and building materials used, as well as the different modes of application. In short, despite having undergone some changes, the Quinta da Casadeira retains its original features and allows the analysis of the rural XIX century man and the organization of different spatial functions at that time. Therefore, after a careful analysis of the architectural work, we implement an "interpretation of core values for our development, a transubstantiation of individual ideals in a material environment", to make an assessment of the concordant and discordant architectural elements with the current requirements and translate them all into an intervention proposal.
