Are Portuguese Travel Agencies prepared to satisfy the accessible tourism market?

Resumo: | In the context of accessible tourism, Travel Agencies (TAs), as intermediaries, can play an important role as facilitators of access to tourism products if they meet accessibility requirements. This study aims to analyze complaints about TAs in Portugal carried by people who belong to accessible tourism market and identify what kind of constraints/barriers they encounter during the acquisition and enjoyment of tourism services acquired through TAs. The results show that TAs in Portugal are not fully prepared to meet the needs of the accessible tourism market. Most of the complaints are related to the lack of accessibility of the tourism products that they sell and the attitudes of the professionals of the tourism companies. The article ends with some suggestions for increasing the accessibility of products offered by travel agencies. |

The article ends with some suggestions for increasing the accessibility of products offered by travel agencies.No âmbito do turismo acessível, as Agências de Viagens (AVs) enquanto intermediários podem desempenhar um papel de facilitadores ao acesso físico de produtos e/ou serviços turísticos, caso cumpram com os requisitos de acessibilidade. O presente estudo pretende analisar as reclamações sobre as agências de viagens e operadores turísticos existentes em Portugal, efetuadas por pessoas que fazem parte do mercado do turismo acessível, e identicar que tipo de constrangimentos/barreiras encontram durante a aquisição e usufruto de serviços turísticos adquiridos através das AVs. Os resultados obtidos revelam que as AVs em Portugal não estão totalmente preparadas para satisfazer as necessidades do mercado do turismo acessível. A maioria das reclamações relaciona-se com a falta de acessibilidade dos produtos turísticos que comercializam e a atitude dos profissionais das empresas turísticas.
