Resumo: The circular economy has been present in Gandaresa identity and culture since its inception, due to the community's culture of utilisation and reuse. Adaptive reuse, anchored in the circular economy, can be implemented as a strategy for the preservation and conservation of Gandaresa culture and identity, giving new uses to its tangible and intangible cultural assets. The aim of this research is to promote the use of the circular economy and adaptive reuse in the preservation of Gandaresa identity and culture in a tourism context. Interviews were conducted with residents of the municipalities of Vagos, Mira and Cantanhede. The results show that the use of these processes in today's society is an asset for protecting and preserving the identity of this culture. The use of the circular economy and especially adaptive reuse is a strategy that helps in the conservation and preservation of not only tangible but also intangible cultural heritage, promoting cultural, social and economic impacts on communities. When it comes to preserving intangible memories and traditions, adaptive reuse also plays a significant role. The preservation of intangible cultural heritage, such as traditional practices, oral expressions, folk festivals, music, dances and crafts, is equally important for maintaining a community's identity and social cohesion. Thus, by integrating traditional practices and cultural expressions into authentic tourist experiences, adaptive reuse can provide benefits for both local communities and tourists.
