Resumo: Abstract: The light has through the centuries induced an enormous altraction in mankind. The element is such important to Man that comprehension of the regular solar cycles represented a large advance for the unnumbered civilizalions spread all over the terrestrial globe. The recognition of solar light as a vital support to life, originated its worship and representation of several goddess in the different religions. Architecture did not dismiss the relationship of dependence that Man has wilh Sun. Since the moment that conscientiously this art opened the first spot for light entrance, the building adapted to the climacteric demand imposed by the Sun. This star molded not only the lifestyle of civilizations, but also the way they interact with the buildings due to their latitude. The dissertation begins with a general scientific part to understand the form of reception and perception of the solar rays and their importance for Man physical and mental health, passing through the theoretical analysis of the relationship between light, painting and photography, and also the relationship between the light and the different architectonic movement of history. This work is intended to comprehend the processes that lead to the determination of the ideal light that should enter the space of a building, specifically buildings with art center functions. For that purpose Centro Galego de Arte Contemporânea, Centro de Artes de Sines and Centro de Arte Contemporânea de Bragança - Graça Morais, three works of portuguese architects, were analyzed with the objective to identify the common elements of light manipulation in buildings of this type that make them exemplar architectonic objects.
