Resumo: | Internationally, advocacy has known a significant growth in the last decades, breeding herein the professionals the perception that there has been a wide dismantlement of the constraints which regulated the access to the profession and, within, the most capitalized positions. Making a study based upon the Portuguese advocacy its keystone, the fallacy of this idea will be uncovered — advocacy’s inner segmentation today allows it to remain a topos of the reproduction of the dominant classes. It will also be stressed that the mechanisms that steer this process contribute to conceal it, for they tend to be shorten to factors rooted in an asocial conception of the individual merit. |

It will also be stressed that the mechanisms that steer this process contribute to conceal it, for they tend to be shorten to factors rooted in an asocial conception of the individual merit.El crecimiento numérico que la abogacía sufrió internacionalmente en las últimas décadas, fue muy elevado, generando en los profesionistas la percepción de que se verificó un amplio desmantelamiento de lascondicionantes que marcaban el acceso a la profesión, y en su interior, a las posiciones más capitalizadas. Recurriendo a un estudio centrado en la abogacía portuguesa se observa que esa lectura no es correcta —la segmentación interna que la profesión registra hoy en día, permite que continúe siendo utilizada eficazmente en los procesos de reproducción de las clases dominantes. Se demuestra, además, que losmecanismos por los cuales ese proceso opera contribuyen para ocultarlo, pues tienden a ser reducidos a factores que radican en una concepción asocial del mérito individual.La grande augmentation du nombre d’avocats observée ces dernières décennies à l’échelle internationale a suscité chez ces professionnels la sensation qu’il y avait eu un assouplissement des conditions d’accès à la profession et, au sein de celle-ci, aux positions les plus capitalisées. À partir d’une étude centrée sur les avocats portugais, cet article nous montre que cette perception est fausse — la segmentation interne ausein de la profession, telle qu’elle se présente de nos jours, lui permet de continuer d’être utilisée efficacement dans les processus de reproduction des classes dominantes. Il démontre également que lesmécanismes par lesquels ce processus s’opère contribuent à le cacher, car ils tendent à se limiter à des facteurs fondés sur une conception asociale du mérite individuel.O crescimento numérico que a advocacia sofreu internacionalmente, nas últimas décadas, foi muito intenso, gerando junto dos profissionais a percepção de que se verificou um amplo desmantelamento das condicionantes que pautavam o acesso à profissão e, no seu interior, às posições mais capitalizadas. Recorrendo a um estudo centrado na advocacia portuguesa, observar-se-á que essa leitura não é correcta — a segmentação interna que a profissão regista, hoje em dia, permite que continue a ser utilizada eficazmente nos processos de reprodução das classes dominantes.
