Resumo: | The city of Oporto has a known architectural history, the result of urbanistic, socioeconomic and political phenomena that transformed its housing stock and equipment. The object of study proposed for this research are the buildings in rounded drawer, circular windows, and naval architectural elements, many of them located around the Praça da Liberdade and Avenida dos Aliados, buildings commonly called "Português Suave" and its relationship with the same phenomenon in other countries where they assume other names: Streamline Moderne, Ocean Liner and Style Paquebot. All of them with naval shapes and decorative elements that characterised the outbreak of Art Deco. Whenever possible, the architects will be studied and their work described. It will also be discussed the contribution of the great Transatlantic liners, built at the beginning of the 20th century, as a source of inspiration for these works of the Streamline Moderne style, more specifically their Ocean Liner form. |
