The present investigation appears from the assumption of modern movement and its repercussion in Portuguese contemporary architecture, analysed through the career and projects of Rui Pimentel, based on his design processes of the 40´s and 60´s, in the XX century. We intend to deepen his academical path, his relationship with the Oporto Art School, through cooperation; co-authors; participation in initiatives; exhibitions; and congresses of the epoch in study. This study also has as main purpose to understand the architect´s social responsibility, through Rui Pimentel´s civic, cultural and artistic activities, settled in the debate about the condition of modern architecture as a preferential path to the construction of a progressive and equal society. From its buildings, we will study the meaning of its design process, highlighting three works: building on rua Malaca Marechal Saldanha (1948-1952), building on rua Constituição (1954-1956) and building on rua Firmeza (1956-60).
