Resumo: | Racial discrimination in school can have adverse effects on children.This project, structured as an action-research in a transcultural approach to mental health promotion, involving children from ethnic minority groups, health professionals and teachers, did target 29 students aged between 6 to 14 years' old, from ethnic minority groups (Roma and immigrants children) in an elementary school in Coimbra (Portugal). The Program did take place over 12 weeks (2011-2012) in 6 modules of psycho educative sessions, promoting children self-esteem with multiple strategies: educational games, movies, group work, Role-playing, artistic expression techniques and models of relaxation techniques. The interventions were structured taking into account the diversity and cultural specificities of the children involved in a systemic and integrative perspective. After the interventions, children understood the concepts of difference, respect and cooperation. |
