Resumo: | The 1st Hospital Meeting took place on 16 March 1996, under the theme "Diabetic Foot': lt gathered in Coimbra eighteen doctors of different specialities, who spend a major part of their professional lives dealing with this situation. From that informal exchange of knowledge and personal experience, with sharing of successes and failures, a collection of points has resulted, upon which they were all agreed and that are presented in this paper, together with the recent opinions of severa[ authors who also support them. This paper is mainly meant to be a practi cal help to those who fight against that social problem in our country. |

Juntaram-se em Coimbra dezoito médicos de várias especialidades, que se dedicam em grande parte da sua vida profissional ao tratamento daquela situação. Dessa troca informal de conhecimentos e de experiências pessoais, com comunhão de êxitos e fracassos, resultou um conjunto de pontos em que todos concordaram, e que aqui apresentamos, juntamente com a opinião recente de vários autores que também os apoiam.
