Memory, place and the search for an inclusive territory in the autobiographical documentary of a Brazilian disabled person and audiovisual artist

Resumo: In this article is an experience report on the research and work carried out by the Brazilian video maker Cíntia Soares for the constitution of her documentary Elos: translating the untranslatable (2022). In the (auto)biographical work, she promotes intersections between her subjective experience as a person with a disability (PCD) and broader social and historical contexts, directly linked to a past of prejudice and silencing. In this sense, the young Latin American filmmaker seeks to explore a different territory through filmmaking and the sensitive possibility of expression allowed by this language. From this singular perspective and from the constructed filmic poetics itself, this protagonist reflects on concepts such as memory and place, allowing herself to break boundaries and promote crossings in search of desired new territories and differentiated artistic and expressive possibilities linked to affection and inclusion.

En su trabajo (auto)biográfico, promueve intersecciones entre su experiencia subjetiva como persona con discapacidad (PCD) y contextos sociales e históricos más amplios, directamente vinculados a un pasado de prejuicios y silenciamiento. En este sentido, la joven cineasta latinoamericana busca explorar un territorio diferente a través del cine y la sensible posibilidad de expresión que permite este lenguaje. Desde una perspectiva única y a través de su propia poética fílmica, esta protagonista reflexiona sobre conceptos como la memoria y el lugar, permitiéndose romper fronteras y promover cruces en busca de nuevos territorios deseados y diferentes posibilidades artísticas y expresivas vinculadas al afecto y la inclusión.Cet article est un retour d'expérience sur les recherches et les travaux menés par la réalisatrice audiovisuelle brésilienne Cíntia Soares pour la constitution de son documentaire Elos : traduire l'intraduisible (2022). Dans le travail (auto)biographique, elle favorise les intersections entre son expérience subjective en tant que personne handicapée (PCD) et des contextes sociaux et historiques plus larges, directement liés à un passé de préjugés et de silence. En ce sens, le jeune cinéaste latino-américain cherche à explorer un territoire différent à travers le cinéma et la possibilité sensible d'expression permise par ce langage. Dans une perspective singulière et à partir de la poétique filmique construite elle-même, cette protagoniste réfléchit sur des concepts tels que la mémoire et le lieu, se permettant de briser les frontières et de promouvoir les croisements à la recherche de nouveaux territoires souhaités et de possibilités artistiques et expressives différenciées liées à l'affection et à l'inclusion.Neste artigo trata-se de um relato de experiência sobre a pesquisa e o trabalho efetivado pela realizadora audiovisual brasileira Cíntia Soares para a constituição do seu documentário Elos: traduzindo o intraduzível (2022). Na obra (auto)biográfica, ela promove interseções entre sua experiência subjetiva, enquanto pessoa com deficiência (PCD) e contextos sociais e históricos mais amplos, ligados diretamente a um passado de preconceitos e silenciamentos. Neste sentido, a jovem cineasta latino-americana busca explorar um distinto território por intermédio do fazer cinematográfico e da sensível possibilidade de expressão permitida por esta linguagem.
