As cidades-dormitório, tema pouco estudado, são, por norma, considerados espaços depreciados e que motivam pouca ligação ao lugar por parte dos seus residentes. Nesta dissertação propusemo-nos estudar a problemática da ligação ao lugar por parte dos residentes das cidades-dormitório, tomando como objeto de estudo a vila de Condeixa-a-Nova enquanto dormitório de Coimbra. Dividida em duas partes, num primeiro momento procurámos dotar-nos de informação relativa à cidade, suburbanização, cidades-dormitório e ligação ao lugar que serviram de suporte teórico para o estudo em causa. A segunda parte do trabalho consistiu na análise dos dados recolhidos num inquérito que foi dado a novos residentes da vila de Condeixa-a-Nova, tendo eles sido objeto de análise estatística realizada no programa SPSS. Os resultados foram depois confrontados com as hipóteses formuladas no início da investigação com vista a procurar responder à pergunta de partida.A investigação permitiu confirmar que existe um défice de ligação ao lugar por parte dos residentes das cidades-dormitório, que norteiam a sua escolha residencial com base em opções de racionalidade económica e de proximidade ao local de trabalho, o que impacta na ligação ao lugar. Mas permitiu também perceber que nem todos os novos residentes optam pelas cidades-dormitório como segunda escolha, pelo que existem também opções voluntárias em termos residenciais destes lugares, sendo nestes casos que a ligação ao lugar parece ser mais vincada. Concluiu-se que o tema, por ser pouco estudado, carece de mais trabalhos de investigação que permitam comparação entre realidades diversas que possam determinar a existência ou não de um perfil-tipo de residentes das cidades-dormitório.At a time in which more than half of the world’s population lives in cities, it is in the suburbs that the great majority of the new urbans flock together. Dormitory towns, which in itself is a theme that has not yet been widely studied, are usually considered as being underappreciated spaces that promote little connection between themselves and their resident population.With the present dissertation, we have proposed to study the place attachment between the residents of dormitory towns and the towns themselves, while taking as study object the town of Condeixa-a-Nova, while dormitory of Coimbra. The study was divided in two stages. In the first, we set about to gather information and data concerning the city’s domain, suburbanization, dormitory towns and place attachment, all of which would become the theoretical foundation for the study itself. The second part consisted of the analysis of the data gathered through an inquiry given to new residents of Condeixa-a-Nova, which were then statistically analysed using the SPSS software. The results were then confronted with the hypothesis formulated at the beginning of the study, so as to assess and validate the initial assumption.The investigation allowed us to confirm that there is in fact a deficit when it comes to place attachment between dormitory towns and resident population who base their choices when it comes to place of residence upon nexuses of economical rationality and proximity to the work place, which in turn affect their connection to the place of choice. Furthermore, the study also permitted to come to the understanding that not all of the newer residents opt for dormitory towns as their second choice, and that there are, in fact, voluntary choices when it comes to choosing those places as one’s residence.
