This article presents itself as a contribution to the reflection on public access to museological heritage. It takes as a contextual framework the transformations of thought and practice about / in museums in face of the new values that emerge with Cultural Democracy, and with the role of Information and Communication Technologies - ICTs in the production and sharing of knowledge. To this end, it discusses the relevance of implementing access policies in contemporary museums and the importance of collection management policies and standard tools in this process. It presents the Metropolitan Museum of Art - Met as a case study, analyzing some measures adopted by this institution to promote broad and facilitated access to its collection.
