Once considered as the boosters for new settlements and the reason for the establishment of certain communication routes, today the fairs have lost that meaning. Howbeit, its number of in Portugal is still high. The present dissertations intends to understand the reason for the subsistence of this form of commerce beyond its economic component. To that end, the study is figured in three analysis' fields, following an approximation sequence to the focus of study. The first, regarding a historical and etymological approach, studies the evolution of the fairs in the Portuguese context and, later, in the city of Porto, understanding its nomad genesis, relative to its location. The etymological study intends to create a dissociation between the concepts of fair and market. Moving from a historical analysis to an urban one, in the second moment of the dissertation, it is studied the framework of the fairs in the city's context, keeping in mind the changes of location suffered throughout times. It is in this context that the concept of Post-It City is introduced, used as a tool to understand the importance of the fair in the territory and its capacity to temporarily enhance spaces with a low level of utilisation, from streets, squares, parking lots, to buildings designed with a different purpose. In the third chapter, study is focused on the scale of the object, on the structures used by the salesmen. In that regard, through a process of photographic and drawn survey, different types of fittings, materials and fixation to the floor are identified, as well as a division by typology and variant of the structures used recurrently. Following this survey, there will be introduced reference projects, each as an answer to an identified problem of the current structures. The study peaks in the fourth and last chapter which synthesises the former analysis in an experiment of a modular, foldable system for a stand.
