Resumo: | Throughout history, the architect has been responding intuitively and empirically to the performative constraints that emerged, promoting a constant adjustment to the way they think and design. Nowadays, the building requirements are more demanding and concerned with the performance and comfort, resulting from invisible themes like the structural forces, the sun and the sound. This dissertation pretends promote the vision of performance integration into the design process. Starting with the discussion of the concepts of drawing and performance, we studied the way that the performance notions have been integrated in the design process. Going back, we noticed that some professionals approached these performance ideas, developing their own analogous analysis techniques, resulting in new material and formal concepts. With the introduction of the digital technologies, the architect welcome a "digital drawing table" that allows him to draw space and to analyse performance in an easier and integrated manner in his traditional working environment. The CAD software enhanced by the CAE technologies, often associated to the engineer, allowed the architect to design space according to the project requirements. Nonetheless, the architect hasn't been able to take full advantage of these capacities, persisting to focus mostly on the formal design and relegating the performative studies to the different specialists. The three case studies presented, show how the performance analysis can impact on the final shape improving the building performance, when considered as a drawing tool and with the backing of the digital technologies. The outcome of this dissertation is that, with the possibility of simulation and analysis offered by digital technologies, the performance subject becomes an integral part of the project, transforming linearity between design and performance in a more collaborative attitude between the different parties involved in the project. |
