Os conflitos históricos e as transformações na sociedade que daí derivaram foram a alavanca para o nascimento de novos conceitos aplicados até aos dias de hoje.As transformações sociais espelharam-se, inequivocamente, na organização do espaço, surgindo visões inovadoras que pretendiam dar resposta às necessidades e carências agravadas pelos acontecimentos históricos. As políticas de acesso à habitação definidas no pós-guerra e a reação das administrações governamentais foram merecedoras de uma análise meticulosa. A reorganização das sociedades mais fustigadas pelos conflitos resultou num planeamento prático, direcionado às classes mais baixas, na sua maioria trabalhadores fabris, que dava primazia ao direito à habitação.Paralelamente, com o desenvolvimento de novos modelos de industrialização, a arquitetura e a construção aplicaram os princípios de eficiência e uso racional do espaço e dos recursos. Filosofias de produção como o Taylorismo eram transpostas para as habitações, sendo a cozinha um dos exemplos mais elucidativos deste fenómeno. A integração da mulher no mundo do trabalho e a necessidade de repensar o paradigma familiar trazem transformações profundas na figura feminina, cuja perceção foi sofrendo alterações com a convulsão social e a difusão da ideologia socialista, impulsionadora das correntes feministas que cresciam em toda a Europa. Esta investigação procura abordar as nuances entre dois modelos distintos – cozinha coletiva e cozinha individual –, duas perspetivas diferenciadas que, não sendo abordagens paradoxais ou conflituantes, procuravam o mesmo fim: contribuir para a emancipação da mulher e aliviar a sua carga doméstica.Revolutions across time have played a tremendous role in the evolution of modern architecture, clearly visible in the impact that the social crisis following the First World War had on the organization of spaces and dwellings. The historical conflicts and the transformations in society that resulted from this were the levers for the birth of new concepts applied until today.Social transformations were unequivocally reflected in the organization of space, lifting innovative visions that intended to respond to the needs and shortages worsened by historical events.Social housing policies established during the post-war period and governmental administrations’ reaction were worthy of meticulous analysis. The reorganization of the societies most affected by the conflicts resulted in practical planning aiming at lower classes, mostly factory workers, giving priority to their housing rights.Simultaneously, along with the development of new industrialization models, both architecture and construction started to apply principles of efficiency and wise use of space and resources.
