Evidências científicas recentes apoiam que os pacientes com FM não só têm alterações no processamento da estimulação nociceptiva, mas também têm alterações no processamento do toque suave e afetivo. No presente estudo, procurámos explorar a interação entre o toque afetivo e a sintomatologia FM e avaliar até que ponto as diferentes modalidades de toque afetivo podem constituir uma vantagem ou uma desvantagem para os seus portadores. Após análise dos dados recolhidos de uma amostra online de 104 pacientes FM, encontrámos uma correlação significativa entre a atitude perante o tato desconhecido e os sintomas, impacto e funções gerais, perturbações do sono e dores de cabeça. Contudo, estas correlações não foram nem significativamente negativas nem positivas entre as outras dimensões do tato afetivo e a sintomatologia. Os nossos resultados sugerem que a dimensão de toque afetivo das "atitudes face ao toque não familiar" está negativamente relacionada com o impacto da fibromialgia.Fibromyalgia (FM) is a clinical condition manifested by chronic widespread pain and accompanied by fatigue, sleep disturbances and other somatic symptoms such as headaches or cognitive symptoms such as short-term memory difficulties. Recent scientific evidence supports that FM patients not only have alterations in the processing of nociceptive stimulation, but also have alterations in the processing of soft and affective touch. In the present study, we sought to explore the interaction between affective touch and FM symptomatology and assess to what extent the different modalities of affective touch may constitute an advantage or a disadvantage for its carriers. After analysing data collected from an online sample of 104 FM patients, we found a significant correlation between attitude towards unfamiliar touch and symptoms, general impact and function, sleep disturbance and headache. However, these correlations were neither significantly negative nor positive between the other dimensions of affective touch and symptomatology.
