The Water and Agriculture Atlas: Lisbon region in 1900-1940 focuses its analysis on the territory, which corresponds today to the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. This Atlas results from work conducted for the Research Project MEMO -Evolution of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area Metabolism. Lessons towards a Sustainable Urban Future (PTDC/EMS-ENE/2197/2012), financed by the Portuguese Science Foundation. This Atlas exposes the results of the application of a model of visual characterization, applied to water elements (for domestic and agricultural purposes) and the main crops in the Lisbon region around 1900 and 1940. The results of the cartographic survey expose the existence of a complex mosaic of different landscapes, which testify various practices of water management and uses of the territory, by man, for over a century. Furthermore, it allows visualizing changes but also permanence’s within the various types of water elements and crops, geo-referenced for 1900 and 1940. This Atlas contains two files. A PDF file and a KMZ file which allow an interactive overview of the various elements (Crops, Farms, Settlements, Water Elements) that integrate the present Atlas, through the Google Earth application.
