Participatory methodologies with persons with intellectual disabilities – A theoretical literature review

Resumo: This theoretical literature review includes the different methodologies identified as participatory with persons with disabilities. The participation of persons with disabilities has been demanded by academics, persons with disabilities and even by legal texts such as the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The objective of this theoretical literature review is to compile the different methodological approaches and to identify barriers, criticisms and new experiences of research with persons with intellectual disabilities. It identifies common principles of participatory methodologies, strategies to overcome difficulties and finds concrete examples of research with positive results in which persons with intellectual disabilities have been involved in a significant way.
