The present dissertation is the result of the investigation and work process conducted for the design of a project in the ruin of Atalaia Magra. A project that, due to the condition inherent and the problem of the architectural intervention it poses, serves as a starting point for a precise field of research: the study for the intervention in a building in a state of disrepair that, between the impossibility of restoring its initial condition and the memory of the passage of time, imposes its need for transformation. The motivation of this dissertation stemmed from the investigation and reflection of some concerns arising from a work carried out within the scope of project I. Returning to the first project carried out as an architecture student, and rethinking it with all the knowledge acquired over the five years of study, the objective is to formalize the proposal of an Interpretive Center for Atalaia Magra, through the adaptation of the program of the international competition for architectural ideas, ArkxSite - Site Cultural Center. In an approach to the problem of architectural intervention and to develop a theoreticalpractical work, this dissertation was divided into two parts: Approximations and Project. The first part is divided into three: in the theme that encourages the realization of the project - the material memory of the passage of time -, in the study of the problem that is intended to deepen - how to intervene in a ruin - and in the presentation of the circumstance on which it is based. will conduct the intervention proposal. At first, we sought to understand the meanings, possibilities and difficulties of ruin as a place of reminiscence. Through a meager review on the themes of time, ruin and memory, an attempt was made to respond to the concerns of the design process. The awareness that each of the intervention stances arise from a problem of interpretation and a given context, focused, in a second moment, on the study of references related to the theme of ruin and intervention in the pre-existing. As a criterion for the selection of these examples, the exploration of intervention strategies in the pre-existence, where the tower appears as a design guideline, is considered. The third moment is dedicated to the study of the history of the place and the ruin. In an intervention whose main design driver is historical and local importance, knowledge of its circumstances reveals the motivation for choosing this architectural element as an object of interest to intervene. It's the story that makes it unique. The second part is the project memory. This part of the dissertation appears as a project synthesis, the result of the reflection of all the acquired knowledge. This part is divided into two. In the first, the principles adopted for the intervention proposal are explained. The second appears as a descriptive memory, explaining how the program articulates with the project and pre-existence, and what constructive options were taken.
