Resumo: Lu Xun’s The Passer-by stands out amongst Lu Xun's oeuvre both due to its formal aspects and the way it reflects the author’s existential despair in the face of the finitude of life and the future of his homeland. In addition to understanding the protagonist of the play as an avatar of Lu Xun himself, the present essay also seeks to conceive the "world" of The Passer-by as a phenomenon of "spatialization of time", where time and space are arranged around a unidirectional axis. Inserted in this context, the other characters with whom the Passenger comes across are read not only as distinct phases of human life, but also as representing the past and future of China itself.

Para além de entender o protagonista da peça como um avatar do próprio Lu Xun, o presente ensaio procura também conceber o “mundo” de O caminhante como um fenómeno de “espacialização do tempo”, onde tempo e espaço são dispostos em torno de um eixo unidirecional.
