Resumo: The present investigation, is born from the necessity of preserving Madeira island’s craftsmanship, their technics and products, from Madeiran Embroidery, Wicker, Wood Inlays, “Palmito” and “Canavieira”. This work was elaborated to present these crafts that still deserve attention and respect for their fundamental part in the history of Madeira archipelago, and was made to generate interest in possible future applications for each craft, if they get the chance to remain active. Craftsmanship is fundamental for the study and comprehension of each nation’s evolution. It representes the history, culture and identity of where they are made, as well as the knowledge of the craftsmen. And Madeira Island’s craftsmanship is no exception. Keeping in mind the importance at a social level that craftsmanship has, it’s imperative that Madeira’s crafts are studied and preserved. Divided in multiple fases, this project is initiated with a general craftsmanship synthesis and another specifically about Madeira’s craftsmanship, diving after into each craft, considered relevant for the local identity, being not often found outside of the archipelago. These crafts were, Wicker, Madeiran Embroidery, Wood Inlays, “Palmito” and “Canavieira”. Craftsmanship has a big connection to design, from their origin to nowadays with innovation from partnerships like in the world of fashion, not leaving product design out as an exception. With the objective of celebrating the regional craftsmanship and the intention of valuing once again the madeiran craftsman, through inovation followed by tradition, resulted the making of a product the had the wicker craftsmanship as a base and was inspired by the famous regional product, the Monte’s wicker toboggan.
