The beginning of the twentieth century was a remarkable period in what museums are concerned. A great number of these were created in the different district capitals of the country which exhibited not only regional items but also collections representing the national artistic values. These museums incorporated several objects proceeding from the ancient extinguished monasteries when a decree abolished the religious orders in 1834. These institutions organized their exposition spaces according to the museum theories of that period. However, as years went by there were great modifications in the value attributed to several artistic collections as well as in the politics of their management. We studied the development of one of the most important collections of the museum assets, the textile collection, within this context along the 106 years of the history of the museum.
