Resumo: | Body adornments are considered material elements that marked the existence of the symbolism and cognition of the first individuals of the genus Homo concomitant to other symbolic manifestations, which did not leave visible marks in the archaeological record. Ethnographic data shows that most of them are produced from of light and organic materials. The funerary deposition allows better conditioning of these materials, as well as a better archaeological contextualization. This research aimed to analyze the adornments made from organic materials and identified in a prehistoric funerary context in 10 sites in Northeast Brazil. The data allowed us to infer that the groups that inhabited the region used different types of adornments, made from different raw materials (bones, teeth, shells, straw, seeds). These records are inserted in chronological order starting in 10,000 years B.P., with greater concentration and diversification between 2000 and 1000 years B.P. |
