An overview of research on Modeling Mathematics: Colombia and Brazil

Resumo: This article presents an overview of Colombian and Brazilian research on Mathematical Modeling in the field of Mathematics Education. Our objective was to identify the use of modeling in the research carried out in the countries. For that, we conducted two searches in data banks; in Colombia the GrupLAC of Colciencias groups were searched and the RECOMEM information was confronted. In Brazil, the Tese da Capes Bank was used. In the case of Colombia, the selection of documents was made taking into account that they were publications in magazines, books or book chapters. In the case of Brazil, for having a state-of-the-art research on the subject until 2015, we used that study and selected the most recent research of 2016 and 2017. We presented the research and with the analysis we set up similarity categories that would allow us to know more about the theoretical, methodological approaches and uses of Mathematical Modeling as a research field. The categories formed were: 1) tool to: a) teach and learn Mathematics, b) develop skills and competencies, c) solve problems with / through Mathematics; d) political, critical, democratic formation; e) establish contextualized and interdisciplinary environments with mathematics; and 2) object of study: a) learning to model and b) Relationship with other approaches and theories c) study of modeling research. In general, we can notice similarities and differences between the productions between both countries, what investigations need to be carried out.

Nuestro objetivo fue identificar el uso de la modelación en las investigaciones realizadas en ambos países. Para eso, realizamos dos búsquedas en bancos de dados; en Colombia se buscó los GrupLAC de grupos de Colciencias y se confrontó la información de la RECOMEM. En Brasil se utilizó el Banco de Tese da Capes. Para el caso de Colombia, la selección de los documentos se hizo teniendo en cuenta que fueran publicaciones en revistas, libros o capítulos de libro. En el caso de Brasil, por haber un estado de arte de investigación en el tema hasta 2015, utilizamos ese estudio y seleccionamos las investigaciones más recientes de 2016 y 2017. Presentamos las investigaciones y con el análisis configuramos categorías de semejanza que permitieran conocer más sobre los enfoques teóricos, metodológicos y los usos da Modelación Matemática como campo investigativo. Las categorías formadas fueron: 1) herramienta para: a) enseñar y aprender Matemática, b) desarrollar habilidades y competencias, c) resolver problemas con/por medio de la Matemática; d) formación política, crítica, democrática; e) establecer ambientes contextualizados e interdisciplinarios con la matemática; y 2) objeto de estudio: a) aprender a modelar; b) relación con otros enfoques y teorías y c) estudio de la investigación sobre modelación. De modo general, podemos notar similitudes y diferencias entre las producciones entre ambos países, y aspectos sobre el tipo de investigación debe realizarse.Este artigo apresenta um panorama da pesquisa colombiana e brasileira sobre Modelagem Matemática no campo da Educação Matemática. Nosso objetivo foi identificar o uso da modelagem na pesquisa realizada nos referidos países. Para isso, realizamos duas pesquisas em bancos de dados; na Colômbia, os grupos GrupLAC de Colciencias foram revistados e as informações do RECOMEM foram confrontadas. No Brasil, foi utilizado o Banco Tese da Capes. No caso da Colômbia, a seleção de documentos foi feita levando-se em conta que eram publicações em revistas, livros ou capítulos de livros. No caso do Brasil, por ter um estado da arte sobre o assunto, até 2015, usamos esse estudo e selecionamos as pesquisas mais recentes em 2016 e 2017. Apresentamos as categorias de similaridade que permitiriam saber mais sobre as abordagens teóricas, metodológicas e usos da modelagem matemática como campo de pesquisa.
