Resumo: Observing small animals in the classroom can provide important educational experiences. This study, through the use of the ladybird (Harmonia axyridis), investigated the effect of observation of part of the life cycle of this insect, in the formation of children from 3 to 4 years old, their relatives and their teacher. Data were collected through interviews with the teacher and observers in the school and analyzed qualitatively. We considered aspects such as the understanding of the cycle, the child's motivation in relation to the activities performed and the possibility of scientific literacy between generations. It was concluded that the observation of ladybugs in the classroom contributed to the teacher's formation, meaningful learning of the children and the scientific literacy of their families.
