The theme of infectious diseases in high school: analysis of teaching books, National High School Exam and student perception

Resumo: Infectious diseases have always marked the history of mankind and nowadays become the predominant issue in the media with the pandemic of the new coronavirus. In this paper we assess how this subject is approached in Brazilian high schools. Analysis were made of the biology textbooks recommended by National Textbook Program and the National High School Exam (ENEM) from 2009 to 2018. Questionnaires were also applied to students from public and private schools. The results show that the theme is presented satisfactorily in textbooks, point out a significant relationship between these and the ENEM tests and allow reflections on the interdisciplinary approach and in other ways that the content can be worked on.

The results show that the theme is presented satisfactorily in textbooks, point out a significant relationship between these and the ENEM tests and allow reflections on the interdisciplinary approach and in other ways that the content can be worked on.Las enfermedades infecciosas siempre han marcado la historia de la humanidad y hoy, con la nueva pandemia del coronavirus, se han convertido en la pauta predominante en los medios de comunicación. En ese trabajo evaluamos cómo ese asunto es abordado en las escuelas de Secundaria brasileñas. Se realizaron análisis de los libros didácticos de biología recomendados por el Programa Nacional del Libro Didáctico y de las pruebas del Examen Nacional de Enseñanza Secundaria (ENEM) de 2009 a 2018. También se aplicaron cuestionarios a alumnos de escuelas públicas y privadas. Los resultados muestran que el tema se presenta de forma satisfactoria en los libros didácticos, señalan una relación significativa de éstos con las pruebas del ENEM y permiten reflexiones sobre el enfoque interdisciplinario y de otras maneras que el contenido pueda ser trabajado.As doenças infecciosas sempre marcaram a história da humanidade e atualmente tornaram-se a pauta predominante na mídia com a pandemia do novo coronavírus. Nesse trabalho avaliamos como esse assunto é abordado nas escolas de Ensino Médio brasileiras. Foram realizadas análises dos livros didáticos de biologia recomendados pelo Programa Nacional do Livro Didático de 2018 e das provas do Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (2009 – 2018). Também foram aplicados questionários a alunos de escolas das redes pública e particular.
