E-mail: katiaregina.vet@hotmail.com The skin tumors are the most common neoplasias in dogs. The skin is the largest organ in the body of animals and is statistically more likely to change. There are several classifications of skin tumors and cell types involved. In general, topical due to its location, are easy to access, giving chance for good surgical margin. Malignancy and metastasis are closely linked to metastatic tumor classification. The improvement in the histopathological diagnosis of tumors in animals provides clinical information that is absolutely fundamental to the understanding of disease prognosis and institution of appropriate therapy. There are several methods for diagnosis of skin cancer, but there are few reports of use of cut needle in animals, despite being widely used in human medicine. The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of cut needle (Super Core II ® 14-ga x 9 cm) in the histopathologic diagnosis of cutaneous nodules of nonepithelial origin in dogs when compared with the histopathologic findings of surgical specimens analyzed. Analysis of 35 nodules of nonepithelial origin of male and female dogs of various ages. The sample collection consisted of obtaining three tissue samples with needle-cutting each node evaluated. After the collection, we proceeded to the total excision of the nodules. The fragments and nodules were collected and submitted to histopathological analysis and classified according to the rules of the World Health Organization (WHO). The χ2 test with significance for 1% (p <0.001), cutting needle biopsy showed a diagnostic accuracy for tumors of nonepithelial origin. It was concluded that the cut needle is an effective method in the diagnosis and classification of cutaneous lesions of nonepithelial in dogs.

It was concluded that the cut needle is an effective method in the diagnosis and classification of cutaneous lesions of nonepithelial in dogs.
