Resumo: This research studies voice usage as a sound element, beyond its semantic content, having the movie Rolling Family (2004), from Argentinian movie director Pablo Trapero, as the analysis object. In this movie, characters’ lines appear to not be connected to information generally interpreted as “relevant”, but instead fluctuating through subjects that could be understood as “peripherical”. This characteristic would reduce the primary sematic role of voice, opening space to its presence as sound. Understanding voice as another layer of a movie sound construction and as an important factor in character configuration and actions, we observe which are the possible potencies implied in it sonority. Furthermore, we observe significations which emerge from the interaction between voice and the other sound components and to which extents such polyphony is capable of articulating specific narrative layers. These diversifications in voice usage may be approached in line with its demands, taking us to several questions and different theoretical approaches from which the movie present us as possible usage modes of vocal sonorities.
