Preparação, caracterização e estudos termoanalíticos de bases de Schiff biopoliméricas e seus complexos de cobre

Resumo: The present work is divided in three parts. The first part deals with the purification and characterization of commercial chitosan from different suppliers. The second part describes the synthesis and characterization of biopolymeric Schiff bases obtained of chitosan. The Schiff bases were obtained from the condensation chitosan ( DA= 90%) with salicylaldehyde and its 5-bromo, 5-chloro, 5-nitro, 5-methyl, 5-methoxy sallicylaldehyde derivatives in acidic medium. Using the data obtained in the spectra of 1H NMR of the Schiff bases, it was determined the Mean Degree of Substitution ( DS ). The Mean Degree of Substitution ( DS ) ranged from 4.6% to 68.5% depending on the R group. The most substituted Schiff bases (highly DS ) has been used to obtain copper complexes. All the products were characterized by elemental analysis, hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). SEM photomicrographs was obtained with the purpose of verifying in morphologic changes in the biopolymerics Schiff bases as well as the copper complexes obtained from these bases in relation to starting chitosan. In a third stage, it was investigated the thermal behavior of biopolymerics Schiff bases and with the starting chitosan. An evaluation of the hydration and of thermal decomposition of chitosan and of the biopolymerics Schiff bases was accomplished using Thermogravimetry (TG) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The chitosan TG curves under N2 presented two mass losses representing dehydration and decomposition of the polymer. Under air an additional step was observed due to the burnning of carbonaceous material. The biopolymeric Schiff bases decomposed in three steps: dehydration, decomposition and burnning of the carbonaceous residue in air. In both cases the DSC curves agreeded with the thermal events described by the TG curves.

A primeira parte trata da purificação e caracterização de quitosanas comerciais de três marcas diferentes. A segunda parte trata da síntese e caracterização de bases de Schiff obtidas de quitosana. A terceira parte trata da síntese e caracterização de complexos biopoliméricos obtidos de bases de Schiff. As bases de Schiff foram obtidas a partir da condensação de quitosana (GD = 90%) com salicilaldeído e seus derivados 5-bromo, 5-cloro, 5-nitro, 5-metill, 5-metóxi salicilaldeído em meio ácido. Usando os resultados obtidos nos espectros de 1H RMN das bases de Schiff, determinou-se o Grau médio de Substituição (GS ), que variou entre 4,6 a 68,5% dependendo do grupo R. As bases de Schiff mais substituídas (maiores GS ) foram usadas para obter complexos de cobre. Todos os compostos foram caracterizados por análise elementar, espectroscopia de absorção na região do infravermelho (IV) e ressonância magnética nuclear de hidrogênio (1H RMN). Também foram obtidas micrografias em diferentes ampliações com a finalidade de verificar possíveis alterações morfológicas nas bases de Schiff biopoliméricas como também nos complexos de cobre obtidos a partir destas bases em relação à quitosana de partida. Por fim, estudou-se o comportamento térmico de quitosana, bases de Schiff biopoliméricas e dos complexos de cobre. Uma avaliação da hidratação e de decomposição térmica de quitosana, bases de Schiff biopoliméricas e complexos de cobre foi realizada usando termogravimetria/primeira derivada (TG/DTG) e calorimetria exploratória diferencial (DSC). As curvas TG de quitosana sob atmosfera de N2 apresentaram duas perda de massa representadas pela desidratação e decomposição do polímero. Sob ar, uma etapa adicional foi observada na queima do material carbonizado. Em relação as bases de Schiff biopoliméricas, as curvas TG, sob ar, a decomposição térmica ocorreu em três etapas. A primeira corresponde à liberação de água, seguida da decomposição do material polimérico e por último a queima do material carbonizado.
