Resumo: Production and distribution are two key decisions in supply chain management. In order to achieve an effective operational performance along the supply chain, it might be important for these two decisions to be planned in a integrated manner, especially in supply chains with low inventory levels between production and distribution activities. This thesis studies the integration of production, inventory, distribution and routing decisions in the context of furniture companies. Research involving this integration has focus on more theoretical and idealized scenarios and, therefore, analysis on real-world settings are scarce in the related literature. Thus, we contribute to the literature by proposing mathematical optimization models and solution methods to represent and solve the integrated production and distribution planning and scheduling problem in the context of furniture manufacturers. Moreover, we also highlight the advantages of integrating production and distribution planning and scheduling decisions over the current industry practice, wherein both of these decisions are made independently of each other. The proposed optimization models take into account features rarely considered in the literature, but commonly found in furniture companies, such as producing and stocking multiples components and sub-assemblies (instead of final products), sequence-dependent setups times and costs, different capacity vehicles performing multiples trips over the planning horizon, distribution routes extending over one or more periods, multiple time windows and customers deadlines. As a result, our models properly represent the real situation and can be used to support integrated production and distribution planning and scheduling decisions in furniture companies. These models, however, are difficult to solve and their use as a production and distribution planning and scheduling tool is limited to moderate sized instances. In order to solve larger problems, we also propose different decomposition-based heuristic methods, which are able to solve larger instances in reasonable computing times. Results show that our heuristics, based on mathematical programming (i.e., matheuristics), are able to produce better solutions than general-purpose optimization solvers in shorter computing times. Exact solution methods, based on Benders decomposition, are also proposed to provide better quality solutions for small instances. Computational evaluation of these approaches shows that they perform as well as a general-purpose optimization solver. Overall, the approaches here proposed (i.e., mathematical optimization models and solution approaches) can be used in different furniture companies, as they are able to effectively support production and distribution planning and scheduling activities, considering the most relevant and common features found in the furniture manufacturing and delivery processes. Moreover, these approaches can be adapted or extended to be used in other industries with similar production and distribution processes as those found in furniture companies.

No intuito de atingir um desempenho operacional efetivo ao longo da cadeia, é importante que estas duas funções sejam planejadas de forma integrada, principalmente em casos de cadeias com baixos níveis de estoque entre operações de produção e distribuição. Esta tese estuda o problema de integrar decisões de produção, estocagem, distribuição e roteamento no contexto de indústrias moveleiras. Estudos envolvendo a integração dessas decisões têm focado cenários mais teóricos e idealizados e, consequentemente, análises em contextos mais práticos são escassos na literatura relacionada. Desta forma, esta tese contribui para a literatura propondo modelos de otimização matemática e métodos de solução para representar e resolver o problema integrado de planejamento e programação da produção e distribuição no contexto de empresas produtoras de móveis. A tese também destaca as vantagens de utilizar as abordagens aqui propostas para o planejamento e programação integrada da produção e distribuição, em comparação com a prática corrente das empresas do setor, em que estas decisões são tomadas de forma isolada e independente. Os modelos de otimização propostos consideram características raramente encontradas na literatura relacionada, mas comuns em empresas deste setor, tais como, produção e estocagem de múltiplas partes e componentes (ao invés de produtos finais), tempos e custos de preparação dependentes da sequência, veículos de diferente capacidade que realizam múltiplas rotas ao longo do horizonte de planejamento, rotas de distribuição que se estendem ao longo de um ou mais períodos, múltiplas janelas de tempo e prazos de entrega nos clientes. Desta forma, os modelos aqui desenvolvidos representam adequadamente a situação real e podem ser utilizados como ferramentas de apoio ao planejamento e programação das operações de produção e distribuição em empresas moveleiras. Estes modelos, entretanto, são difíceis de serem resolvidos e suas utilizações como ferramentas de apoio ao planejamento e programação limitam-se a exemplares de tamanho moderado. Portanto, nesta tese também são desenvolvidas técnicas heurísticas de decomposição, capazes de resolver exemplares de maior porte em tempos computacionais razoáveis. Os resultados mostram que as heurísticas propostas, baseadas em programação matemática (i.e., matheuristics), são capazes de produzir melhores soluções que softwares de otimização comerciais em menores tempos computacionais. Métodos exatos de solução, baseados na decomposição de Benders, também são propostos no intuito de fornecer soluções melhores para exemplares de tamanho moderado. Os resultados da avaliação computacional destas abordagens mostram que elas são, em geral, competitivas com um solver de otimização de propósito geral. Em geral, as abordagens propostas nesta tese (i.e., modelos matemáticos e métodos de solução) têm grande potencial de aplicação prática em empresas do setor moveleiro, pois auxiliam e apoiam de forma efetiva o processo de planejamento e programação das operações de produção e distribuição, considerando características relevantes e comumente encontradas nos processos de fabricação e entrega de móveis. Além disso, essas abordagens podem ser adaptadas e/ou estendidas para serem utilizadas em outras indústrias com processos de fabricação e entrega similares àqueles encontrados na indústria moveleira.Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)FAPESP: 2014/10565-8CNPq: 140179/2014-3porUniversidade Federal de São CarlosCâmpus São CarlosPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Produção - PPGEPUFSCarProblema de produção e roteamentoPlanejamento e programação da produção e distribuiçãoHeurísticas de programação matemáticaIndústria moveleiraProduction routing problemIntegrated production and distribution planning and schedulingMathematical programming heurisitcsFurniture industryENGENHARIAS::ENGENHARIA DE PRODUCAO::PESQUISA OPERACIONALModelos de otimização e métodos de solução para o planejamento da produção e distribuição na indústria de móveisOptimization models and solution methods for production and distribution planning in the furniture industryinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisOnline600ab73fe2d-ae49-4b7d-915b-b256b3c2d946info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFSCARinstname:Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCAR)instacron:UFSCARLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
