Nurses' perception of interprofessional collaboration in a hospital emergency service

Objective: to understand the perception of nurses about interprofessional collaboration in a hospital urgency and emergency service. Method: descriptive, exploratory and qualitative research, carried out in a public hospital in the state of São Paulo. Twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted with nurses and submitted to the Content Analysis proposed by Bardin. Results: collaboration was identified in more complex situations, related to procedures and technical actions. There are weaknesses in communication, conflicts in interpersonal relationships and little understanding about professional roles. The performance of actions common to other professionals is often assumed by the nurse. Final considerations: the nurse's role as a centralizer of actions stands out, showing that it is necessary to advance in the recognition of professional roles and in interprofessional communication. It is believed that the construction of spaces for the discussion of cases and the construction of collaborative actions asserts itself as a necessary strategy for interprofessional collaboration.
