Quality Physical Education: Principles, strategies and pedagogical practices for developing Physical Literacy

Resumo: School is a particularly relevant social context for the individuals' development, providing access to opportunities to improve health and access to a quality education on an equitable basis. As the only subject in the school curriculum whose focus combines the body and physical competence with learning based on values and communication, Physical Education is recognized by UNESCO as a privileged environment where children and young people can develop the skills required to succeed as an active part of 21st century societies. Quality participation in physical education is one of the most important ways of ensuring active and healthy citizenship, which also includes taking responsibility and valuing inclusive participation in physical activity throughout life. Physical Literacy, defined as the integrated development of motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to engage in physical activity throughout life, is considered the ultimate outcome of Quality Physical Education. This chapter aims to contribute to the sistematization of Pedagogical intervention strategies for the development of Physical Literacy in the context of Physical Education.

Al ser la única asignatura del currículo escolar cuyo enfoque combina el cuerpo y la competencia física con el aprendizaje basado en valores y la comunicación, la Educación Física es reconocida por la UNESCO como un medio privilegiado donde los niños y jóvenes pueden desarrollar las habilidades necesarias para tener éxito como parte activa de las sociedades del siglo XXI. La participación de calidad en la Educación Física es una de las formas más importantes de garantizar el ejercicio de una ciudadanía activa y saludable, que incluye asumir responsabilidades y valorar la participación inclusiva en la actividad física a lo largo de toda la vida. La alfabetización física, definida como el desarrollo integrado de la motivación, la confianza, la competencia física, el conocimiento y la comprensión para practicar actividad física a lo largo de la vida, se considera el resultado último de una educación física de calidad. Este capítulo pretende contribuir a la sistematización de estrategias de intervención pedagógica dirigidas a desarrollar la Alfabetización Física en el contexto de la Educación Física.A escola é um contexto social particularmente relevante no desenvolvimento dos indivíduos, possibilitando o acesso a oportunidades de melhoria da saúde e o acesso a uma educação de qualidade de forma equitativa. Por ser a única disciplina do currículo escolar cujo foco combina o corpo e a competência física com aprendizagens baseadas em valores e na comunicação, a Educação Física é reconhecida pela UNESCO um meio privilegiado onde as crianças e jovens podem desenvolver as competências requeridas para serem bem-sucedidos enquanto parte ativa das sociedades do século XXI. A participação de qualidade na Educação Física é uma das vias mais importantes para assegurar o exercício de uma cidadania ativa e saudável, onde se inclui a tomada de responsabilidade e valorização da participação inclusiva em atividade física ao longo da vida. A Literacia Física, definida como o desenvolvimento integrado da motivação, confiança, competência física, conhecimento e compreensão para praticar atividade física ao longo da vida, é considerada o resultado último da Educação Física de Qualidade.
