STUDENT ASSISTANCE IN A PUBLIC STATE UNIVERSITY: A STUDY IN THE LIGHT OF THE REPERCUSSIONS OF COVID-19

Resumo: | This article aims to describe the contribution and shares developed by the State University of Piauí related to student assistance in the face of the challenges of remote learning in the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the permanence from March 2020 to June 2021. The study promotes discussions about the current context of inequalities and the management of public policies for student Assistance, focusing on student retention. According to the method, it is a qualitative approach, descriptive in nature, using the case study as a research method. The main results show consistent measures regarding the supply of vacancies in four public notices launched in the pandemic period. However, in relation to the types of programs implemented and the effective number of students served, it is clear that there was a lower contemplation of students, not reaching the numbers initially projected with a view to granting the benefits. These actions made it possible for students to access the Internet during remote classes. Also, some benefits aimed at paying for housing according to the family environment. Currently, the university maintains its classes remotely as a teaching-learning strategy. Although it is noticed that there was movement by the HEI (IES) in promoting student assistance actions during the pandemic period, with regard to the efficiency in promoting such measures, it is recognized that there was a small student adhesion to the benefits offered, requiring the university to rethink the strategies with a view to reducing dropout. |

El estudio promueve el debate sobre el contexto actual de las desigualdades y la gestión de las políticas públicas de Asistencia al Estudiante centradas en la permanencia de los estudiantes. En cuanto al método, se trata de un enfoque cualitativo, de carácter descriptivo, que utiliza el estudio de casos como método de investigación. Sin embargo, en relación con los tipos de programas implementados y el número efectivo de alumnos atendidos, se observa que hubo una tímida contemplación de alumnos, no alcanzando las cifras inicialmente proyectadas para la concesión de beneficios. Estas acciones permitieron el acceso de los estudiantes a Internet durante las clases a distancia y algunas prestaciones destinadas a financiar el alojamiento en municipios fuera del entorno familiar. Actualmente, la UESPI mantiene sus clases a distancia como estrategia de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Si bien se observa que la IES fue activa en la promoción de acciones de Asistencia al Estudiante durante el período de la pandemia, en cuanto a la eficiencia en la promoción de dichas medidas, se reconoce que hubo una baja adhesión de los estudiantes a los beneficios ofrecidos, lo que hizo necesario que la UESPI replanteara sus estrategias para reducir la deserción.Este artigo se propõe a descrever a contribuição (ações) desenvolvidas pela Universidade Estadual do Piauí ligadas à Assistência Estudantil frente aos desafios do ensino remoto na pandemia da COVID-19 com foco na permanência de março de 2020 a junho de 2021. O estudo promove discussões sobre o atual contexto de desigualdades e a gestão de políticas públicas de Assistência Estudantil com foco na permanência dos estudantes. Em termos de método, trata-se de abordagem qualitativa, de natureza descritiva, utilizando-se do Estudo de Caso como método de pesquisa. Como principais resultados, evidenciam-se medidas consistentes quanto à oferta de números de vagas em quatro Editais lançados no período pandêmico, entretanto, em relação aos tipos de programas implementados e a quantidade efetiva de discentes atendidos percebe-se que houve uma tímida contemplação dos estudantes, não alcançando os números inicialmente projetados visando à concessão dos benefícios. Essas ações possibilitaram o acesso dos discentes à Internet durante as aulas remotas e alguns benefícios voltados ao custeio de moradia em municípios fora do ambiente familiar. Atualmente, a UESPI mantém suas aulas de forma remota como estratégia de ensino-aprendizagem.
