Resumo: | Sustainable development is a priority agenda for 21st-century society. The Brazilian university, in its mission to address relevant and current issues to solve real problems, is called upon to contribute to the sustainability agenda. This study focuses on academic research on Sustainable Development in Higher Education (SDHE). Through a review of national and international literature, it aims to reflect on possibilities for Brazilian universities to contribute to sustainable development. The study addresses the question: How can Brazilian universities contribute to sustainable development? The methodology, qualitative in nature, involves a literature review from specialized journals. Searches were conducted in the Scopus database considering the descriptors: Higher Education for Sustainability Development; Education for Sustainability Development; Education for Sustainability. The majority of selected research, from 2014 onwards, comes from the journals: Journal of Cleaner Production and International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education. Both journals were prioritized for their abundant research material and an impact factor exceeding 1.00 (THOMPSON REUTERS). The results indicate the need for universities to work towards sustainable management, a sustainable academic curriculum, and comprehensive teacher training. It is concluded that this study contributes to Brazilian higher education by promoting the development of Systemic Sustainability Policies aligned among universities, governments, and the productive sector. |
