The place of communication in democratic theories

Resumo: The text begins by identifying the central role of communication in the functioning of democracy. Firstly, we examine this role in the context of Athenian direct democracy from the classical period. Next, we identify the transformations brought about by the reinvention of democracy, now in its representative variant, starting from the Age of Revolutions. Following that, we undertake an analytical exercise to identify the functions and requirements related to communication according to the three main currents of democratic theory: representative (aggregative), deliberative, and participative.

Primero, examinamos este papel en el contexto de la democracia directa ateniense del período clásico. A continuación, identificamos las transformaciones traídas por la reinvención de la democracia, ahora en su vertiente representativa, a partir de la Era de las Revoluciones. Luego, realizamos un ejercicio analítico para identificar las funciones y exigencias relacionadas con la comunicación de acuerdo con las tres principales corrientes de la teoría democrática: representativa (agregativa), deliberativa y participativa. O texto explora começa por identificar o papel central da comunicação no funcionamento da democracia. Primeiramente examinamos esse papel no contexto da democracia direta ateniense do período clássico. Em seguida, identificamos as transformações trazidas pela reinvenção da democracia, agora em sua vertente representativa, a partir da Era das Revoluções.
