Resumo: Objectives: To identify the prevalence and factors associated with work-related stress and Burnout syndrome among nursing professionals working in oncology. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study done with 231 nursing professionals who worked at a High Complexity Oncology Center in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from December 2013 to June 2015. Work-related stress was assessed using the Workplace Stress Scale and Burnout syndrome by the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Results: The prevalence of Work-Related Stress of moderate/intense intensity was 75.8% and 38.9% of professionals had Burnout Syndrome. There was an increase in the prevalence of Work-Related Stress with advancing age [40-49, PR:1.61 (95%CI:1.01-2.55) and ≥ 50 years, PR:1.78 (95%CI: %:1.10-2.90)], with a positive history of accident [PR:1.29 (CI95%:1.06-1.60)] and physical or verbal aggression [PR:1.50 (CI95% :1.24-1.82)] during hospital work. The presence of Burnout syndrome was also associated with these variables, in addition to self-reported stress [PR:1.14 (95%CI:1.05-1.23)].  Conclusion: Work-related stress and Burnout syndrome were associated with antecedents related to the work environment and age, showing common variables in the occurrence of these comorbidities.

SciELO PreprintsSciELO PreprintsSciELO Preprints2022-04-28info:eu-repo/semantics/preprintinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/preprint/view/403010.1590/SciELOPreprints.4030porhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/article/view/4030/7615Copyright (c) 2022 Jéssica Cristini Pires Sant'Ana, Juliano dos Santos, Karina Cardoso Meira, Pedro Gilson Beserra Silva, Lannuzya Veríssimo e Oliveira, Sheyla Gomes Pereira de Almeida, Angela Maria Geraldo Pierinhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSant'Ana, Jéssica Cristini PiresSantos, Juliano dosMeira, Karina CardosoSilva, Pedro Gilson BeserraOliveira, Lannuzya Veríssimo eAlmeida, Sheyla Gomes Pereira dePierin, Angela Maria Geraldoreponame:SciELO Preprintsinstname:SciELOinstacron:SCI2022-04-26T00:53:09Zoai:ops.preprints.scielo.org:preprint/4030Servidor de preprintshttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scieloONGhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/oaiscielo.submission@scielo.orgopendoar:2022-04-26T00:53:09SciELO Preprints - SciELOfalse
