Burnout Syndrome in professionals working in Oncology: Integrative Review

Resumo: | Introduction: Oncological care is performed by a multiprofessional health team, composed of different specialists, who need to be prepared not only from the technical scientific point of view, but also emotionally, in order to face a tense routine of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis related to the patient diagnosed with cancer and his family. Thus, these professionals are more vulnerable to the development of Burnout syndrome. Method: In this study, an integrative literature review was carried out, aiming to understand the relationship between Burnout Syndrome and Oncological assistance provided by health professionals in this area. Results: The selected texts were subjected to thematic analysis, after being classified according to the concepts brought by each author, with five thematic axes of discussion being identified: Burnout related to work factors correlating leave for health reasons, Burnout associated with professional factors and personal, as well as the barriers encountered; and coping proposals to reduce this scenario. Conclusion: It was possible to notice that the emotional burden demanded by the care and management of cancer patients and their families, as well as all the factors involved in the process, both personal and work, have an important relationship with the appearance of the symptoms that lead to Burnout Syndrome. The selected studies reinforce the need to invest in training with the teams in order to prevent the appearance of Burnout, as well as to recognize in advance potential signs and symptoms presented by professionals that may be suggestive of the syndrome. |

Por lo tanto, estos profesionales son más vulnerables al desarrollo del síndrome de Burnout. Método: en este estudio, se llevó a cabo una revisión integral de la literatura, con el objetivo de comprender la relación entre el Síndrome de Burnout y la asistencia oncológica proporcionada por profesionales de la salud en esta área. Resultados: Los textos seleccionados fueron sometidos a análisis temáticos, luego de ser clasificados de acuerdo con los conceptos aportados por cada autor, con cinco ejes temáticos de discusión identificados: Burnout relacionado con factores de trabajo que correlacionan el permiso por razones desalud, Burnout asociado con factores profesionales y personal, así como las barreras encontradas; y propuestas de afrontamiento para reducir este scenario. Conclusión: fue posible notar que la carga emocional exigida por la atención y el manejo de los pacientes con cáncer y sus familias, así como todos los factores involucrados en el proceso, tanto personales como laborales, tienen una relación importante con la aparición de los síntomas que conducen al Síndrome de Burnout. Los estudios seleccionados refuerzan la necesidad de invertir encapacitación con los equipos para prevenir la aparición de Burnout, así como para reconocer de antemano los posibles signos y síntomas presentados por profesionales que pueden sugerir el síndrome.Introdução: O cuidado oncológico é realizado por uma equipe multiprofissional de saúde, composta por diferentes especialistas, que precisam estar preparados não apenas sob o ponto de vista técnico científico, como também emocional, de forma a enfrentar uma rotina tensa de diagnóstico, tratamento e prognóstico relacionado ao paciente diagnosticado com câncer e seus familiares. Assim, estes profissionais estão mais vulneráveis ao desenvolvimento da síndrome de Burnout. Método: Neste estudo realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura, objetivando compreender a relação entre a Síndrome de Burnout e a assistência Oncológica prestada pelos profissionais de saúde desta área. Resultados: Os textos selecionados foram submetidos à análise temática, após sua classificação de acordo com os conceitos trazidos por cada autor, sendo identificados cinco eixos temáticos de discussão: Burnout relacionado aos fatores laborais correlacionando afastamento por motivos de saúde), Burnout associada aos fatores profissionais e pessoais, bem como as barreiras encontradas); e propostas de enfrentamento para diminuir este cenário. Conclusão: Pôde-se perceber que a carga emocional demandada pelo cuidado e manejo de pacientes com câncer e seus familiares, bem como todos os fatores envolvidos no processo tanto pessoais quanto laborais apresentam importante relação com o aparecimento dos sintomas que levam a Síndrome de Burnout.
