Resumo: | The assumption that generations differ substantially in their goals, behaviors and work values arouses the interest of scholars who seek to understand the differences and similarities between generational groups. Thus, the study analyzes the values of work interpreted as significant for students of generations Y and Z of the stricto sensu in accounting. To identify the significant values of the work, the Revised Scale of Values Related to Work (EVT-R) was used. 337 students participated in the study, 246 of generation Y and 91 of generation Z, who in 2019 were enrolled in one of the stricto sensu postgraduate courses in the area of Accounting in Brazil. After the descriptive analysis of the profile of the participants, the exploratory factor analysis was used to reduce variables in dimensions and to rank the factors according to their level of importance. The seven factors were aligned with the motivational types advocated in Schwartz's Theory (1992). The values of work considered most important were those that deal with job stability and financial independence that formed the Safety factor; the values considered less important were those related to status, sovereignty and prestige that comprised the Power factor. The findings help managers to know the values and concerns of the new generations and in the academic environment allows to know the characteristics, values and beliefs of students, making it possible to rethink educational practices. |
