Resumo: | The Covid-19 pandemic is a serious health emergency capable of creating serious social problems. For this reason, the article seeks to know the social protection available for the Brazilian population to face these problems. For this, it reconstructs and analyzes the living conditions of the Brazilian population in connection with public policies in two periods of time, pre-pandemic and pandemic. It was found, regressive changes in living conditions that indicate a reduction in social protection and a decrease in social well-being for the majority of the population. It is concluded that the social protection of Brazilians has serious weaknesses and difficulties to face the pandemic and, with the trends found, signal that enormous sacrifices and high losses of human lives can be expected in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. |
