Barriers faced by students with visual impairment in services supporting inclusion in higher learning in Mexico

Resumo: | This research aims to know the support services (SSs) for the inclusion of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Mexico, and detect the barriers that exist in them for the achievement of an effective inclusion of students with visual impairment (VI), as well as, to know the proposals of students with VI for the improvement of these services. This analysis was attended by twelve students, from eight universities in Mexico, from different semesters and professional careers. Based on the analysis of data, the responses were structured by topics focused on investigating the SSs of HEIs, the barriers faced by students with VIs in these services and their proposals for improvement. The results yielded information regarding the scarcity of HEIs in Mexico for inclusion and the weight they have for student learning with VI, and also pointed to a task more focused on administrative, than pedagogical. It was concluded that it is necessary to analyze where the HEIs are in the inclusion process, not only to ensure access and incorporation of students with VIs, but to recognize the various profiles and provide effective support services. |

It was concluded that it is necessary to analyze where the HEIs are in the inclusion process, not only to ensure access and incorporation of students with VIs, but to recognize the various profiles and provide effective support services.Esta investigación tiene como propósito conocer los servicios de apoyo (SA) para la inclusión con que cuentan las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) en México, y detectar las barreras que existen en los mismos para el logro de una inclusión efectiva del alumnado con discapacidad visual (DV), así como también, conocer las propuestas del estudiantado con DV para la mejora de estos servicios. Se contó con la participación de doce estudiantes, de ocho universidades de México, de diferentes semestres y carreras profesionales. Partiendo del análisis de los datos, se estructuraron las respuestas por temáticas enfocadas en indagar los SA con que cuentan las IES, las barreras a las que se enfrenta el alumnado con DV en estos servicios y las propuestas de los mismos para su mejora. Los resultados arrojaron información concerniente a la escasez en los SA para la inclusión con que cuentan las IES en México y el peso que tienen para el aprendizaje del alumnado con DV, además apuntaron a una tarea más centrada en lo administrativo, que en lo pedagógico. Se concluyó que es necesario analizar en qué parte del proceso de inclusión se encuentran las IES, no sólo para garantizar el acceso e incorporación del alumnado con DV, sino para reconocer los diversos perfiles y brindar servicios de apoyo efectivos y eficaces.Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo conhecer os serviços de apoio (SA) para a inclusão com que contam as Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) no México e identificar as barreiras que existem nos mesmos para conseguir uma inclusão efetiva do estudante com deficiência visual (DV), bem como conhecer as propostas do estudante com DV para a melhoria destes serviços. Contou-se com a participação de doze estudantes, de oito universidades do México, de diferentes semestres e carreiras profissionais. Com base na análise dos dados as respostas foram estruturadas por temas centrados em investigar os SA existentes nas IES, as barreiras enfrentadas pelos alunos com DV nestes serviços e as propostas dos mesmos para melhoria. Os resultados obtiveram informação referente à escassez nos SA para a inclusão com que contam as IES no México e o peso que têm para a aprendizagem do aluno com DV. Além disso, apontaram para uma tarefa mais centrada no administrativo que no pedagógico.
