Resumo: This study examines the psychosocial effects of silence, secret, and secrecy surrounding the diagnosis of HIV/AIDS in young people infected through vertical transmission. Ten young individuals between the ages of 12 and 17, treated at a specialized outpatient clinic of a public hospital known for its expertise in this population's healthcare, who were aware of their serological status, were included in the research. Qualitative methods such as semi-structured interviews and analysis of medical records were employed. The study explored various aspects, including the participants' profiles, vertical transmission mechanisms, disclosure impacts, coping maturity, parental and caregiver roles, and scientific advancements. The findings revealed that secrecy contributes to the stigmatization of HIV. These results are crucial to guide parents, caregivers, healthcare professionals, educators, and policymakers on enhancing communication strategies, counseling, and support for young people in a respectful and suitable manner.
